Hi, this is Gus! Gus was adopted and kept in the backyard.  His owner passed away in January & Gus showed up at the pound the first of April ‘09. He was heartworm positive but finished his treatment without problem.   Also, he had so many fleas/ticks/matted coat he had to be shaved. His coat is coming back slowly.  Gus is about 4-years old but has the heart and energy of a 1-year old! He loves to run but especially LOVES his walks!  Gus HAS to be walked on a harness or he would choke himself because he can really pull!  He must be on a leash at all times when outside the security of his fence. Gus has learned to stay off the furniture, but he does go on the bed and LOVES to snuggle. He has NOT had an accident in the house. The pet door he has mastered but at night it stays closed & he will wake you if he needs to go out. Gus has a fairly high prey drive when it comes to small animals so he would not be good around cats. Because of his high energy level, he is not good around small children. Gus has only been exposed to smaller dogs but has done wonderful with them. He does get overwhelmed if he is approached too quickly or by too many people. He gives kisses galore, and LOVES car rides – he must be secured in a crate or harness or he is all over the place. Gus will need a family who is patient and willing to work with him.  To sum him up...if there was an award for "Living every second of life to the fullest," Gus would definitely win, paws down!
