| Hi, My name is Rascal! I came into rescue on tax day,
and boy has it ever been an adventure. My owners didn't want me
anymore and turned me into a kill shelter. The rescue group saw
my picture and that I only had a few days left. With the help of
a number of people across 3 states, I was pulled from the shelter,
taken to a vet to be neutered and vaccinated, and placed in a temporary
foster home until my railroad took me to my foster mom. As soon
as Foster Mom got me home, she sat out in the yard with me in her lap
and slowly cut the mats out from behind my ears. They were so bad
I couldn't even stand my ears up all the way. Afterwards, she
rubbed my ears and it felt so good I closed my eyes a dozed off.
It was wonderful!!
Two days later I went to the
rescue vet for a check-up and some tests. Evidently I failed
cause Foster Mom was really upset. She told me about worms
in my heart. Yuck!! And I'm only 1-2 years old! A
young guy like me shouldn't have a problem like this. Anyway, she
said it would be OK and I go back to the really nice vet on Friday to
stage my heartworms and to hopefully start the treatments.
You can see in my pictures that
I was just groomed and have a beautiful coat. I tried to tell
Foster Mom that I'd never had anything like that done before, but they
just kept working. I guess it really does feel good having all
that nasty old undercoat out of there and be able to feel the
breeze. I have a really nice coat and I'm especially proud
of my plume tail!
Once the worms are taken care
of, I'll be ready for my new forever home. I'd really like a
place where the people will pet me and love me and take care of
me. I didn't get that at the last place. Let Foster
Mom know if you're the one for me and she'll set it up.
NOTE FROM FOSTER MOM:
Rascal will be ready for placement once his treatments are
complete. He will be house-trained and crate-trained.
Unfortunately, Rascal's owners must have placed him in the back yard
after they took him home - and left him there. Amazingly, he is
the sweetest boy and simply wants love and attention.
5/1/06 Update - Rascal is one week post-heartworm treatment and doing very well. It's difficult keeping a young boy quiet!
